Born in England, Michael Walsh emigrated to Canada in 1979 and began his Karate training as a white belt with Northern Karate in 1982.  He is currently a 7th Degree Black Belt, and also holds a Bachelor of Education degree and an Ontario Teaching Certificate.

In addition to his karate education he has also  studied Chi Gung, Tai Chi and Kobudo.  Michael is the creator of Northern Karate Schools' unique Bully Proof® program which continues to offer practical help to numerous children in the Toronto area.

Together with his teacher, Hanshi Cezar Borkowski, he has co-authored several magazine articles and edited the text "History and Traditions of Okinawan Martial Arts”. The information for these publications was gathered during several field trips to Okinawa.  Additionally, Michael has appeared on several television programs and martial arts videotapes, and is a featured performer and lecturer at international seminars.

Future goals include developing senior level black belts to continue the growth of Northern Karate Schools and to spend time travelling with his wife and two children. To relax, Michael enjoys playing music and riding “anything on two wheels - with or without an engine.”
